GEA’s Education Summit 

Over 520 community members joined us under the big tent and in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church in Greensboro for Education Summit 2023 on April 20th.

We had a lot to celebrate this year! S.M.A.R.T Bond Commitee co-chairs Cecelia Thompson and the Rev. Dr. Frank Thomas were the 2023 Margaret Bourdeaux Arbuckle Award honorees.  Spark Awards, given out to individuals and organizations doing innovative work to support our schools, were given out to Allen Tate Realtors, Chase’s Chance and WFMY News2. We were wowed by performances by the Weaver Jazz Band, Eastern High’s Honors Dance Team and Grimsley’s Blue Steel drumline. And Dr. Whitney Oakley shared updates on innovative school design and construction, school-based teleheath and more! Plus we got a virtual reality tour of the new Peck Elementary School thanks to SHP.   It was an inspiring day!
